U2e3 el 9 - 20 de diciembre

We will continue to work on Unidad2 e3.  Spend some time each evening reviewing the blue vocabulary sheet.  Also, keep reminding yourself how to conjugate the -er/-ir verbs.  (Review the PowerPoint from the previous post.)

lunes, 9 de diciembre:  We will finish our Isabel pictures.  Then a few grade 8's from Central will spend some time with us.  Be sure to make them feel welcome and comfortable in our (Mr. Ammon's!) classroom

Throughout the course of the week, we will intersperse working on El Cuento de Isabel with the content of Unidad 2 etapa 3.  By Thursday, we'll get into groups and start planning the filming of the Isabel story, just as we did with Guillermo.  Filming will likely happen on Monday, December 17.  Bring props to make the video more interesting!

jueves, 19 de diciembre:  Verb test on all -ar, -er, -ir verbs PLUS the conjugations of ser, tener, ir, estar, hacer, oír and conocer.  You need to know the meanings of all vocab from the blue sheet and the meanings of all the verbs.  Know when to use ser/estar/tener/ir.  We will be preparing for this test during the week.

viernes, 20 de diciembre:  This last day of school before Christmas holidays is one of my favourites.  More info to come, but be prepared to eat pancakes and have fun!
After Thursday's test we will begin Unidad 3 etapa 1.

U2 e3 el 2 - 6 de diciembre

We are now getting started on Unidad 2 etapa3. This chapter focuses on leisure activities, so you are going to learn lots of new verbs/vocabulary.  We will be talking about what teenagers do in their free time. We will also be learning a new story:  El Cuento de Isabel

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, grade 8 students from Lansdowne will be coming to check out the electives that Vic High offers.  We will have about five students visiting our Spanish class. Let's make them feel welcome!

On Thursday, Dec. 5,  there will be a quiz on conjugating -ar, -er, -ir verbs.
ex.  (vivir)  Nosotros _______________ en una casa.
This is pretty easy stuff, but be sure to review your notes.  (Click on the Unidad 2 tab above to find the notes.) The PowerPoint below will also help you.

U2e2 el 18 de noviembre - el 21de noviembre

This week we will continue our work on Unidad 2 etapa 2. 
On Tuesday, November 19, you will have a quiz on la hora.  This will have two parts.  Part 1:  students will be asked to communicate a given time in Spanish as directed by the teacher.  Part 2:  Teacher will say a time and student must write it down.  We will practice this on Monday.

You will be assigned an  oral presentation on tener que + infinitivo and la hora.  This will be presented in groups on Thursday, November 21.

This week we will cover two new irregular verbs: ir (to go) and estar (to be).  On Monday, November 25, there will be a quiz on the four irregular verbs: ser, tener, estar and ir.

In addition to learning the irregular verbs ir and estar, we will be covering question words such as ¿dónde? ¿cómo?, etc.
Unit 2 etapa 2 test will be on Thursday, November 28.
You will be given an outline for this test by the end of the week.

U2e1 - U2e2 el 12 - 15 de noviembre

Be sure to study for Wednesday's test on -ar verbs and vocab from U2e1.  Outline is in a previous post.

After Wednesday's test, we will start U2e2.  We will be learning how to tell time in Spanish.  We'll be able to discuss our school timetable.  Another oral presentation will be assigned later this week.  This time, you'll be presenting to smaller groups instead of the whole class.

U2e1 el 4 - 8 de noviembre

This week we will begin work on Unidad 2 etapa 1.
On Monday, you will learn the vocab related to classroom objects.  Quiz on this on Thursday!

We will be learning a long list of -AR verbs (blue sheet).  We will be learning how to conjugate these verbs and how to use them in sentences.  We will also be learning expressions of frequency such as "always, sometimes, never".

In addition to being able to name classroom objects, you'll be able to discuss the various school subjects.

Test for this etapa will be next week:  Probably on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Date TBA.

• All vocabulary from this unit.  Class subjects, classroom objects, etc.
• How to conjugate -AR verbs
• The meanings of the -AR verbs on your list

U1e3 - el 28 de octubre - el 1 de noviembre

Monday is Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) day!  We will read a bit and then make our videos on El cuento de Guillermo.  (¡Una persona que lee es una persona contenta!)

martes, el 29 de octubre: we will review possessive adjectives and family and learn the months of the year and how to say dates in Spanish.

All week we will review the material from Unidad 1 etapa 3.  Note that the test on this unit has been postponed to Thursday, October 31.  Happy Halloween!!  Treats after the test!!

U1e3 el 21 - 24 de octubre

We are currently working on Unidad 1 etapa 3.  There's a lot of vocabulary in this unit:  numbers 0 - 100, the irregular verb tener, vocab related to la familia,ages and birthdays (months of the year).  We will also learn the  possessive adjectives.

lunes, 21 de octubre:  Preparation for oral presentation.  Be sure to bring your photo to class!  Be sure to write your sentences at home over the weekend.  I will correct them in class on Monday.

You are going to describe the person in your picture according to the following criteria:
1. Name & relationship to you
2. Age
3. Eye color
4. Hair color
5. Three descriptive adjectives
6. Clothing (include two articles of clothing and colour)

Your Spanish sentences must be ready for correction on Monday, October 21.
If you draw  your picture, the Spanish should not be written on the same paper as your drawing.

Unidad 1 etapa 3 el 15-18 de octubre

Homework over the long weekend:  Finish the booklet (pages 2 - 6) that we started in class and study for Tuesday's test.
The vocabulary test on Unidad 1 etapa 2 (see previous post) has been postponed until Tuesday, October 15.
After the test, we will start working on Unidad 1 etapa 3.  We will be covering numbers from 0 – 100, months of the year, birth dates, ages, and vocab related to the family.  We’ll also cover possessive adjectives (my brother, your sister, etc.)  A vocabulary list will be given to students.  Students must learn all vocabulary from the vocabulary sheet.

Test for Unidad 1 etapa 3 will likely be on Thursday, October 24.  But don't stress about that right now.  Just come to every class and participate 100% and you will get most of your learning done in class.  Remember that reviewing your vocabulary every night for 10 - 20 minutes will keep you ahead of the game:)

U1 e2 7 - 11de octubre

There will be a Dictado on Monday, October 7.  See previous post for the exact expressions.
Last week, students learned the vocabulary from Unidad 1 etapa 2 related to clothing and colors.    This week, they will learn how to describe people's eye and hair colour.  They will also learn a variety of descriptive adjectives.  (They will get a vocab handout on Monday.)
 
On Friday, October 11, there will be a multiple choice test on all the vocabulary related to this etapa.
Be sure to study all the vocabulary from your handout on this etapa.  The test will be tricky if you don't know your vocabulary well.

The main themes are:  clothing, colours and descriptive adjectives (tall, short, big, little, etc.)

U1 etapa 2 el 30 de septiembre - el 4 de octubre

On Monday, Sept. 30 we will finish up Unidad 1 etapa 1.  Test on Tuesday.  (See previous post for outline.  Outline is also in your notebooks.)

After the test, we will start Unidad 1 etapa 2.  This chapter is full of LOTS of new vocabulary.  We will start with the colours and clothing.  Then we'll move on to descriptive adjectives. You should review the new words each evening for 10-15 minutes.
Study the dictado below.  You will have the very same one on Friday, Oct. 4

We will continue to review "Ser" and the subject pronouns.  (see the ppt below)

Wednesday: Etapa Preliminar Test

On Monday and Tuesday we will finish up Etapa Preliminar.  There will be a test on Wednesday.  Here is the test outline:

Español 9:  Test on Etapa Preliminar

el alfabeto:  The teacher will spell words or say a string of letters and you write down the letters

1. los números 0-10:  Be able to spell the numbers.
   Be able to write the numbers your teacher says.
2. los días de la semana:  Be able to write the days of the week.
    Ex.  Si hoy es jueves, mañana es____________
3. saludos y despedidas:  Know how to greet people, ask them their names, ask where they’re from, etc.  Know all vocabulary that we've covered so far!
4. Be able to answer the following questions:
   ¿Cómo te llamas?
   ¿De dónde eres?
   ¿Cuál es tu teléfono?
   ¿Qué día es hoy?¿Qué día es mañana?

After Wednesday's test we will begin Unidad 1 etapa 1.  We will start learning vocabulary from this unit.  (Remember class notes and vocabulary lists are posted above.)
